SCI to Present at the 2011Worldwide Oracle Rdb Technical Forums
Software Concepts International, LLC (SCI), a managed services and IT consulting company that specializes in OpenVMS, Oracle Rdb and DBMS, has been asked by Oracle to present at the 2011 Worldwide Oracle Rdb Technical Forums. Known in the industry as the leading provider of highly sophisticated IT system and database management solutions worldwide, SCI will draw on our 20+ years of experience managing 100’s of Oracle Rdb databases and HP OpenVMS systems to present the following two session:
Real-time event monitoring and detection techniques for Rdb Detection of critical events in near real-time is essential for maintaining database availability and performance. Yet, all too often, problems are discovered or reported after the fact – after the problem has passed (along with the chance to capture useful diagnostic information about the environment at the time of the problem). This session will discuss some of the tools and techniques available in Rdb for detecting critical performance and infrastructure problems in near real time. By detecting these events, as they occur, you are able to respond to them more quickly – possibly diverting a disaster or simply the ability to capture information about the system/database or process when an event occurs. Presented by Jeffrey Lucia, Senior Database Engineer.
Managing an OpenVMS system as if your Rdb database depended on it! As the DBA, you have configured your database to withstand multiple failures…every availability feature and performance optimization has been configured for maximum performance and availability. OpenVMS too is an incredibly robust and rugged operating system with security, performance and availability features “built-in”. So, you ask, what can go wrong? In a word, plenty! In a complex environment, there are literally 1000’s of things that can go wrong – and they are often the result of neglect, mismanagement or operational errors. While not all are likely to crash the computer or cluster, many of these problems can cause unplanned outages of portions of your application – or worse. This session discusses proven methodologies and best practice for VMS system management that virtually eliminates downtime while maintaining exceptional performance. It looks at a holistic approach to OpenVMS system management; configuration, state monitoring, threshold alerts, performance data collection and reporting, problem reporting and tracking, root cause analysis and correction. Presented by Brad McCusker, VP VMS System Services
