OVERVIEW
This
course introduces
participants to Oracle CODASYL internal algorithms, data structures and implementation details. Participants will use Oracle CODASYL utilities to examine locks,
analyze the database and its structures, identify key components of Oracle
CODASYL bugcheck dumps and understand database recovery mechanisms. By completion of this course, participants will gain a complete
understanding of the internal workings of the database including “behind
the scenes” issues and controls.
AT COURSE COMPLETION
Students
will be able to: |
- Understand the mechanisms DBMS uses to control database
integrity
- Understand the physical (on-disk) data structures used by
Oracle CODASYL DBMS
- Patch and repair internal database data structures
- Perform basic analysis of DBMBUGCHK dump files
- Read and understand database page formats
- Chase DBMS set pointers in a DUMP output
- Understand, identify and repair most forms of database
corruption
- Gain insights into
the internal workings of Oracle CODASYL DBMS.

PREREQUISITES
Students are expected to
have a high level understanding of database concepts and should be
experienced Oracle CODASYL DBMS DBAs. Students must have completed the
Oracle CODASYL DBMS database administration topic area and are recommended
to have completed the Advanced Oracle CODASYL DBMS DBA performance topic
area.
