OVERVIEW
This
course teaches students how to develop efficient programs to access Oracle
CODASYL DBMS®. Participants will learn how to efficiently
access and update a database using the DBQ facility and from high-level
languages. This lecture/lab course includes Data Manipulation Language (DML)
syntax, READY modes, locking and the use of currency indicators.
AT COURSE COMPLETION
Students will be able to: |

components of Oracle CODASYL DBMS and their
interaction
- Write an Oracle CODASYL DBMS DML (Data Manipulation
Language) application program in the high level language of their choice
- Perform ad-hoc access of a database using the DBQ facility
- Design efficient database access methods
- Use database currency indicators efficiently
- Use exception-handling routines to improve program
reliability and boost programmer productivity
- Use
COPY-LIBS for improving programmer productivity and
ensuring efficient database access

PREREQUISITES
Students attending this
course should be familiar with general VMS utilities & commands and
should have a good working knowledge of a programming language (preferably
COBOL) in the VMS environment.
